Greek island Ai Stratis (Agios Stratis, Aghios Efstratios, Αι Στράτης), to become the “green island (as Samso island (Denmark)) with energy consumption totally covered from RES. Island have just won contest, according Ministry of Development information (among Nisiros, Tilos islands that also participated). Danish island - Samso (4.400 habitants, 114 sq.km; PV, wind and biomass with all cars to be powered by biomass soon) - had been used as a model for Saint Stratios (260 habitants at 42 sq. km). For now electrical needs of Saint Stratios are covering by old 1MWp petrelium station of PPC (“DEI”) and 25KW wind turbine (i.e. today's max = 1,4KWh / day per capita). 3 mln Euros' construction (wind turbines and PV) will start after summer 2009 and will be finished by 2010. Similar cases in the world are: Pellworm island (Denmark, 1200 population, 37 sq. km. 75% wind and PV: combined photovoltaic and wind energy to provide over 700MWh/year of electricity: i.e. 0,58MWh/year per capita or 1,6KWh / day per capita). Rathlin island (Ireland, (75%, wind), French Réunion (55% hydro and biomass).

After several months of preparation, internal discussions and pressure from local and international investor groups and individual investors the long awaited amendment to the law 3468/2006 was voted on January 2009 by the Greek parliament. The new law 3734/2009 cures nearly all issues that were not properly addressed in the previous law act in a clear way satisfying the investors and creating a big promise that the future for PV investments in Greece is really bright.

Conergy connects world's third largest thin-film solar park to the grid.
The 8.4 megawatt solar park is currently the largest thin-film solar park in Rhineland-Palatinate. Stadtwerke Trier is financing the 30M-euro project fully from its own resources. With an annual output of nine million kilowatt hours of electricity, the plant supplies around 2,400 four-person homes (i.e. max PP = 10 KWh / day per house) Conergy experts installed over 112,500 thin-film modules, supplied by the firm First Solar, across an area of 25,000 square meters. These were arranged atop 40,000 mounting systems, of the Conergy Solar Linea model, and linked to 28 inverter modules of the Conergy IPG 300K series. The solar park was completed by Conergy in record time and has already been locked into the grid at the lucrative feed-in tariff of 35.49 cents per kilowatt hour (for 20 years).
